New Zealand's All Blacks Sevens Prepare Food From The Heart For Singapore's Underprivileged

SINGAPORE, April 12, 2017 – New Zealand All Blacks Sevens players, together with sponsor AIG and its partners, today packed and distributed food packs with non-profit charity, Food from the Heart, for the underprivileged in Geylang Bahru under the charity’s Community Food Pack programme1.

The initiative, organised by AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte. Ltd. (AIG Singapore), called on the All Blacks Sevens players – Sam Dickson, Vilimoni Koroi and Tone Ng Shiu – as well as AIG Singapore’s agents and employees to pool resources and contribute to the local community. Private-hire car operator Uber helped to drive the players and volunteers around for this meaningful cause, and also helped in the packing of the food packs.   

AIG Singapore’s Head of Corporate Communications (Southeast Asia and Singapore), Ms Chong Wan Yieng, said, “With over 60 years of being part of the Singapore community, helping to prepare and deliver the food packs is AIG’s way of giving back. We hope that through our initiative, we can do our part in raising awareness about the need to give back to the community, and help the underprivileged in Singapore.

“We are proud that the All Blacks Sevens have come out to support this event and the underprivileged elderly in Geylang Bahru today, ahead of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Singapore which kicks off on Saturday.

“We would also like to thank Food from the Heart, Uber, as well as our agents and employees, who volunteered their time to make this initiative happen,” added Ms Chong.

All Blacks Sevens’ head coach, Mr Scott Waldrom, said, “One of the key pillars of the All Blacks Sevens team culture is humility. We are very lucky that we get to travel the world playing rugby, so helping those less fortunate than us is a small way in which we can give back. We are glad to pay back our bit alongside AIG Singapore.”

Food from the Heart’s Executive Director, Mr Anson Quek, said that the charity reaches out to 33,000 beneficiaries across Singapore, distributing food to the underprivileged from the heartlands, schools and welfare homes.

“It is great that AIG Singapore brought the All Blacks Sevens and its partners to Food from the Heart to help feed the hungry and help the needy. Every effort goes a long way to help bring joy and comfort to these low-income families in Singapore.”

Mr Warren Tseng, General Manager of Uber Singapore, said, “Uber and our driver-partners are proud to partner with AIG Singapore for this meaningful initiative. Our technology has helped to change the way Singapore moves in a significant way. We want to apply this same smart innovation to contribute back to the local community, as we pool our resources to give back to society.”
